Standing Up for Rural Indiana

Rural communities are the backbone of Indiana. Our small towns, family farms, and local schools shape the character of our state and support the livelihoods of thousands of Hoosiers.

Dr. Ron Itnyre is running for the Indiana State Senate to ensure that rural communities have a strong voice in Indianapolis. Too often, decisions made at the Statehouse overlook the needs of small towns and farming communities. Ron believes state government should focus on practical solutions that strengthen local economies, support farmers, and protect the services our communities rely on.

Property Tax Relief That Protects Our Communities

Many Hoosiers have seen their property tax bills rise in recent years as property values increased. At the same time, recent state tax changes have reduced revenue for local governments that rely on property taxes to fund schools, public safety, libraries, and road maintenance.

Ron believes Hoosiers shouldn’t have to choose between affordable property taxes and strong local services. As State Senator, he will work for balanced property tax reforms that provide real relief for homeowners, farmers, and retirees while protecting the funding that keeps our communities safe and functioning.

Indiana’s tax policies should help people stay in their homes without undermining the services that make our communities strong.

Protecting Family Farms and Rural Land

Family farms are the foundation of rural Indiana. They provide food, jobs, and a way of life that has defined our state for generations.

Today, farmers face rising costs, increasing consolidation in the agriculture industry, and growing pressure on farmland from large-scale development. Ron believes Indiana must do more to support family farms and ensure rural communities benefit from economic growth.

Ron will work to reduce unnecessary regulations on farmers, strengthen local agricultural markets, and support investments in agricultural infrastructure. He will also advocate for responsible development policies that respect farmland and the communities that depend on it.

Strong farms mean strong rural communities.

Strong Public Schools for Rural Communities

Public schools play a vital role in rural communities. They educate our children, provide local jobs, and serve as gathering places for families and neighbors.

Ron believes Indiana’s education policies should prioritize the public schools that serve the vast majority of Hoosier students. While school choice programs exist, they should not come at the expense of local public schools—especially in rural communities where private school options are often limited.

As State Senator, Ron will work to ensure rural school districts receive fair funding, support teachers and staff, and expand career and technical education opportunities that prepare students for both college and skilled careers.

Strong schools help keep rural communities vibrant for generations to come.
